Phoenix, AZ, July 24th, 2025 - Hoopo, a global leader in asset tracking and fleet intelligence solutions, has been awarded the 2025 IoT Evolution Business Impact Award for its large-scale dry container tracking deployment in partnership with ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd.

Recognized for delivering measurable improvements in operational efficiency, cost reduction, and digital transformation, this recognition highlights how the Hoopo & ZIM collaboration is reshaping dry container fleet management through real-time visibility and automated event detection, and seamless operational integration.

At the core of the deployment is Hoopo’s solar-powered, multi-sensor tracking device, designed for 15 years of maintenance-free operation. The solution delivers real-time container location, status updates, and event notifications, including gate moves, idle durations, and container availability. With continuous updates across ports, inland depots, and customer yards, ZIM now benefits from end-to-end container visibility and faster turnaround.

By eliminating manual gate-event reporting, ZIM has reduced labor requirements, improved data accuracy, and accelerated operational flow across its global network.

This also reduces empty container runs, as access to real-time container location and status enables ZIM to strategically optimize container repositioning, leading to a notable reduction in empty container movements. This directly reduces fuel consumption, handling costs, and the environmental impact associated with non-revenue repositioning.

Hoopo’s tracker provides seamless Bill of Lading (BL) integration, linking each dry container to its BL. ZIM then provides customers with real-time shipment visibility while eliminating the manual effort involved in connecting physical assets with digital records. The result is a streamlined documentation process and faster, more efficient service delivery.

Another major advantage has been container triangulation optimization. With up-to-date availability and location data, ZIM can redirect empty containers from one customer to the next, avoiding unnecessary depot returns. This reduces fuel consumption, improves container utilization, and minimizes environmental impact.

Loss prevention and cargo security have also improved.  With real-time visibility into container activity, including when containers are emptied, ZIM has accelerated the recovery and redeployment process. This has led to higher utilization rates, reduced idle time, and optimized fleet rotation, allowing the company to operate more effectively.

All of this is powered by Hoopo’s fleet intelligence platform, which processes the tracker’s data using edge-based algorithms and a machine learning rule engine. The platform provides smart geofencing, custom alerts, and predictive analytics that enable ZIM to make faster, data-driven decisions across its global logistics operations.

With measurable outcomes in fleet utilization, labor efficiency, and customer satisfaction, the Hoopo - ZIM deployment is a standout example of how IoT can drive meaningful business impact at scale. As global supply chains continue to modernize, Hoopo remains committed to helping logistics leaders like ZIM build more intelligent, agile, and cost-effective operations.
